Overloaded Car Fail

I was at Home Depot a few weeks ago and watched two guys load three carts full of lumber (enough for an entire deck) onto the back of their pickup truck. I am pretty sure it was a half ton truck, and the wood probably weighed close to two tonnes. It was obviously overloaded, but they made it out of the parking lot ... unlike these guys:

Our SUV can safely carry a load (people + cargo) of 1200 lbs, which isn't that much when you consider the weight of lumber, concrete, etc. It works well for most small projects, but I have learned that it is best just to get large quantities delivered. Most lumber yards will deliver for free, but even the $75 or so Lowe's charges is worth it in my opinion.

Par-Tae!

Mackenzie had her 1st birthday party on Saturday with all of her family in attendance! It was a special day even if it was a little packed in our house... the deck and basement can't come soon enough! Turns out that it totally didn't matter as Mackenzie loved the chaos and excitement... what a party girl!

Renobabies

Mackenzie met her first little blogebrity yesterday - Chloe of Rambling Renovators! Chloe was a smiley cutie and such a good sport with our 2 big dogs... she was one brave girl because Owen wouldn't leave her the heck alone! Thanks for dropping by Wanderlauster & Chloe - it was fun meeting you both. :)

Loving

I like to browse the art on etsy from time to time (and must mention that I had an excellent experience buying the print featured in this post... you can see where it currently hangs in Mackenzie's room above her change table in this picture.) and recently came across this painting by Canadian Matt Leblanc that I just love and think would look fabulous in our kitchen dining area... we have a big empty wall that is just waiting for the right art. The punch of red in this piece is right up our alley but we're not too certain if it is the right size. I think we need to wait until we get our permanent table & chairs so we have a better idea of what the room feels like.... until then, seaching around continues to be fun.
